The north side of the house was very dark, damp, and difficult to access. The solution is to build a rock wall about 1m tall to raise the ground level on the north side and create some yard space as well as access to the backyard off the parking area.
So far, all the rocks needed for the wall have come out of the ground when I dug up the big tree roots.
