About

Hello.
My name is Seth McAllister

Originally from Hood River, Oregon, I’ve lived in Japan since 2005 with almost all of the past two decades in Norikura Kogen observing the intricate relationship between people, and the environment they inhabit.

I love to capture the quiet dignity of life in the Japanese Alps—the interplay of light on snow, the textures of mountain living, and the moments where human presence meets wilderness. My photography reflects the same philosophy that guides my work as founder of McAllister Idea Lab: creating space for dignified interaction and exchange among diverse groups of people.

My images are more than documentation; they are invitations to see Norikura through the eyes of someone who has raised five children here, weathered countless winters, and discovered beauty in both the dramatic and the ordinary. My work celebrates the landscape and community that have shaped my life for the past twenty years.

Seth lives in Norikura Kogen with his wife and five children, where he works as a photographer, designer, facilitator and coffee roaster in the Chubusangaku National Park region.
