KANJIKI Snowshoe Tour

Snowshoeing is a great way to get a around our little alpine community when the snow gets deep. There are lots of great trails to enjoy during the green season and they can also be followed in the winter.

I got a try some traditional Japanese KANJIKI snowshoes today as we hiked through the woods behind Norikura BASE. They work a lot like a typical snowshoe but I found them to be easier to move around with. Quick turns are possible and you don’t have to walk with a super wide stance like other bigger snowshoes.

I heard that locals prefered the KANJIKI because they are easy to use, light weight, and can be repaired easily. They also said that the quick turns are good for hunting and trapping.
